Review The Vodka Trail by Fany Van Hemelen:
The Vodka Trail is the second intriguing book in the Trail Series. It is just as the first one an easy read with well-developed characters. If The Bride’s Trail was set in shimmering places The Vodka Trail even is darker and with more grim situations.

You can read this book as a stand alone, but it is more interesting to read the first book so you can follow all the adventures of the protagonists.

Kat is going to reclaim the Vodka factory who was in possession of her dead parents. Nobody wanted her to go because in the past Soviet Union it isn’t safe, but the stubborn Kat is travelling to there. At the same time Marty, known as a hard businessman and with a sad history with Kat is visiting this country to find new ways to earn more money. The book is about insurance and finance and all the protagonists are charmed by money and status. In Bazakistan something unexpected happens and Mary and Kat have to learn to rely on each other. Maybe it is even possible they could get friends, but for Kat this is out of the question. Nevertheless, it’s the humour of Marty that made her survive their dark days when they are left alone, angry and afraid.

In The Vodka Trail the key players have to use their strengths to survive. Of course they have weaknesses to and in this book woman are the most intelligent. They perfectly use the charm and sensuality to get what they desire. I really loved the path of the key players. Now they have been more fragile and human for me. Marty has an emotional side too, and Kat is not only in love with designer dresses, but is very determined to fight back to aim again what belongs to her.

The Vodka Trail is a very good crime thriller with lively, atmospheric places, corruption, interesting characters and a well-written story with some unexpected twists.
I am looking forward to the next book.
